World Day for Safety and Health at Work – 28 April ’11

The 2011 World Day for Safety and Health at Work focuses on the implementation of an Occupational Safety and Health Management System (OSHMS) as a tool for continual improvement in the prevention of workplace incidents and accidents.

An OSHMS is a preventive method to implement safety and health measures which consists of four steps and incorporates the principle of continual improvement. Its principles are based on the PDCA Cycle: PLAN, DO, CHECK, ACT. Its purpose is to establish a comprehensive and structured mechanism for joint action of management and workers in the implementation of safety and health measures. OSHMS can be an effective tool for the management of hazards specific to a given industry, process or organisation.

European Week for Waste Reduction 20th – 28th November 2010

European Week for Waste Reduction 20th – 28th November 2010

The European Week for Waste Reduction is a three year project (2009-2011) supported by the “Information and Communication” component of the LIFE+ Programme Waste reduction involves the first two legal concepts of the new waste framework directive: “waste prevention” and “preparing for reuse”.

In keeping with this hierarchy, the European Week for Waste Reduction aims to raise awareness more specifically on the act of: preventing the production of waste, i.e. everything that can and should be done to prevent throwing an item away, so as to reduce the amount of waste that is submitted for collection and to reduce the harmfulness of the waste generated.

AQS in conjunction with our sister company Acorn Recycling are involved in reducing, managing and re-using waste. We turn our waste into a finish product i.e. compost. In addition AQS employs two types of methods that dewatering waste thus reducing waste disposal.

Sludge Dewatering

Maskoflex dewatering units which are truck mounted dewatering systems with an on board polymer dosing system – utilised for dewatering septic tanks, small local authority water and waste treatment plants, and commercial water and waste water treatment systems. As these units are truck mounted, they provide a lot of flexibility to our customers in that we can dewater sludge on site, resulting in dramatically reduced waste disposal charges and sludge removal on the same day as sludge dewatering.

Mobile centrifuge units – these are larger units designed for more long term dewatering projects such as lagoon dewatering, or general consistent sludge volume dewatering. The machines that we operate are designed and built to the highest possible specification, and are supplied with chopper pumps, sludge pumps, generators and poly dosing systems ( liquid and solid ) if required.
